生于1921年2月，江苏兴化人，和尚，原寒山寺主持。7岁出家本县上方寺，10岁投兴化市上方寺依法安出家。初就学于泰州市光孝寺佛学社，19岁受具戒于句容县宝华山隆昌寺。次年春入常州天宁佛学院，1941年转入上海佛学院（玉佛寺）。1945年夏参学于镇江金山江天寺，旋任该寺执事等。
