DESCRIPTION:
Offered is this very well-preserved, bright and colorful, estate fresh and new to the marketplace, second of two
ancestral, imperial court opaque watercolor paintings on silk,
framed in a period dark stained wooden frame and matted with highly decorative, ornamental embroidered silk fabric. The original painting is laid down on board and has gray hardboard backing, with brass holding clasps. Atop the frame sits the original ornamental, reticulated brass hanger for wall mounting. The image is of a seated
Emperor Wen
of the
Sui Dynasty,
dressed in a formal royal blue and cordovan silk robe, with embroidered shoulders. The
Emperor Wen
holds a decorated paper hand fan in one hand, seen off to his side. He wears a traditional period ceremonial, aristocratic cap, with an attached, rigid dark board. He sits on a regal, aristocratic painted wooden throne and looks slightly off to one side and past the viewer. 100% untouched. Found in a
South Shore, Massachusetts
fine estate. Unsigned. In original wooden frame. No condition issues. Superbly realized. Very fine. Gorgeous.
CONDITION:
Very Good to Excellent overall antique condition.
