    Description

Estate Find in the Chinese collection of a World Traveler collected no later than 1937 in China in outstanding condition.
A "Tourist Book" showing the signs used by Chinese shopkeepers/merchants, vendors, and health practitioners, this is a unique hand painted example of a "Tourist Book" created by Chow Chih Liang. The logo in red Chinese characters is the logo of his workshop. It contains 18 individual pages with illustrations labeled in Chinese and English, ~ 10" x 13". It is bound in boards covered by silk brocade of Dragon and Phoenix(?) designs.
Fung, H.K. produced a similar printed work authorized by the Chinese Painting Association of Peking, 1931, in a limited edition of 100 copies, but this is an individually crafted example of the same subject matter.
Exquisite execution, vibrant coloring, meticulous detailing, make this a rare and desirable piece of art and an incomparable historical artifact.
There are lateral folds on the last three pages of this book, otherwise this copy is practically pristine.
